In a multi-million pound move, Hyundai Car (UK) Ltd and the Port of Tilbury are to develop a new, purpose-built exclusive import facility at the Thames estuary site, creating at least 20 new jobs. The 30-acre site will include a full pre-delivery inspection and preparation operation on reclaimed land with a dedicated riverside berth for the massive roll-on, roll-off ferries which bring vehicles from the South Korean factories. For the last four years Hyundai has imported its vehicles through Sheerness in Kent but is moving to the Essex port as the volume of vehicles being brought in has risen beyond 30,000 a year. |
