Britain's hard-pressed farmers are being forced to pay their bills faster than any other sector because of the mess the industry is in. Business information company, Dun & Bradstreet, assessed the payment performance of nearly 300,000 companies in 14 main industrial sectors. The survey followed an audit by the NFU which confirmed that farmers are existing on a knife-edge in the worst agricultural depression since the 1930s. Senior analyst Philip Mellor said: 'The survey illustrates the difficult credit conditions farmers are facing. The industry is in a depressed state and consequently farmers are not being given credit. 'Their clients are applying pressure either to get payment up front or chasing up bad debts in a way that they might not do with businesses in a more healthy sector. 9was ratÉ |
