A new Farm Business Advice Service has been established to provide support to this complex industry sector through a specially tailored range of free business information, advice and guidance. The service has been developed by MAFF in partnership with the new Small Business Service and is now being delivered locally through a network of regional Business Links. The scheme will help farmers and growers respond to changing market demands and industry profiles by providing one-to-one advice and guidance to help them develop an action plan to take their businesses forward. The service for the Eastern Region (Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire, Herts and Beds) is being co-ordinated by Fred Jacobsberg of Business Link Suffolk. He said: The Government has pledged £22.25 million over the next five years to help ensure the success of the Farm Business Advice Service, and this year alone the Eastern Region is set to benefit from around £600,000 to drive the initiative forward. Farmers and growers will be provided with up to three days of free business advice on a one-to-one basis with a specially approved adviser, who meets the strict standards and criteria laid down by MAFF. The advice will include a health check and analysis of the existing business and lead to the formulation of an action plan to enable the clients to develop key business strategies to grow and expand their operations. The initiative is predominantly aimed at farmers and growers with small to medium-sized farm businesses that have not previously received mainstream advice.
