Eversheds has advised the Ministry of Agriculture Fisheries and Food on a PFI Agreement with Kajima Cambridge Ltd - a subsidiary of Kajima Corporation, a leading Japanese construction, design and development company - to develop MAFF’s 30 acre site in Brooklands Avenue, Cambridge. The PFI route has given MAFF the opportunity to replace its ageing buildings with 15,000m - modern, efficient office accommodation on about one third of the site. The existing buildings on the site, constructed during the Second World War, are mainly single storey and are reaching the end of their economic life, some are no longer in use. Under the agreement two new buildings will be provided. One will house the MAFF staff and the other will be occupied by the Inland Revenue, Valuation Office and Appeals Service. Kajima Cambridge hopes to start building later in the year. The remainder of the site is allocated for housing in the Local Plan which will be developed by Countryside Properties. This will include a mix of houses and flats in keeping with the local area. Some 30 per cent will be affordable housing. An outline planning application was submitted in December 2000 and the consultation period is now in progress. |
