Spanish-owned tile company, Porcelanosa, is strengthening its base in the Anglia region by expanding in Peterborough. The company currently operates a distribution warehouse and trade-counter in the city’s Woodston area and is set to move to a new £4m purpose built warehouse, showroom and office development in Werrin-gton. Porcelanosa, which has been based in the city for 12 years, has purchased a 2.9 acre site from English Partnerships, which is the Government regeneration and development agency. Work has begun on a 52,500 sq ft building that will incorporate 5,000 sq ft of showroom space and 2,500 sq ft of office space. Michael Eady, regional director for Porcelanosa, expects the company to move to its new premises towards the end of the year. An official opening is planned for Spring 2002. Eady said: “We began in Peterborough 12 years ago in a 7,000 sq ft unit and then moved to our current 20,000 sq ft warehouse. “Now, because of the availability of sites, we are able to expand again in the same area while retaining our valuable workforce.” A range of new warehouse jobs and other employment opportunities will be created as a result of the expansion. Porcelanosa’s manufacturing base is located north of Valencia in Spain where the company operates from a 14.5 million sq ft factory. Porcelanosa’s commercial clients in England include a range of national house-builders and the company sells to the public through a number of its own showrooms. |
