NYSE listed Tality is making redundancies at its Cambridge design base at St John’s Innovation Park.
NYSE listed Tality is making redundancies at its Cambridge design base at St John’s Innovation Park. The company which provides out-sourced design for the telecoms sector as well as a technology consultancy, has experienced a down-turn in revenues for its wireless business. Tality is in the process of making 30 redundancies between its two operations in the UK - one in Cambridge and the other in Livingston, Scotland. The figure represents between 13 and 15 per cent of its UK workforce. The company operates in network infrastructure, consumer communications, broadband access, embedded controls and wireless infrastructure markets, but a downturn in its wireless business in particular, means that it is laying off staff in many of its 14 locations worldwide. Keith Pruden, general manager of Tality UK’s Wireless Group said: “As an outsource design company we have traditionally been aligned very closely with companies like Nokia and Ericsson. “With the recent downturn in the market, these companies are looking to make savings, and the first thing to be hit is outsourced design. “We reluctantly took the decision to align our expenses with diminished revenues.” Tality Corporation, formerly the Electronic Design Services group of US company Cadence Design Systems Inc, was recently launched as a separate company. It employs 1,4000 worldwide and is headquartered in San Jose, California.
