Wincanton’s shared user distribution centre in Milton Keynes has won an award for its investment in the local area.
Wincanton’s shared user distribution centre in Milton Keynes has won an award for its investment in the local area. Wincanton was named ‘most successful investor’ in the MK Chamber of Commerce, Invest in Milton Keynes Awards. Since acquiring the site in 1986, Wincanton has comprehensively developed it. The facility was converted to accommodate chilled units for temperature controlled storage and the distribution centre now forms part of Wincanton’s chilled consolidation network. This collects goods from more than 200 suppliers to the supermarket chains and delivers them to the retailers’ regional distribution centres according to daily demand. A large number of jobs have been created and there are now 358 staff on site. Wincanton has further expanded the site from 3.5 acres to 6 acres at a cost of £4.5m. The commitment helped the company clinch a major deal with B & Q. Customers come from throughout Europe. |
