The outbreak of foot and mouth disease and the wet winter cost the company around £1m in profit, said chief executive Nigel Sandy.

He said conditions had improved in the second quarter and the group was on target to meet full-year expectations. The company has acquired rival Integrated Waste Management for £30.9m.
