A high powered delegation of Canadian government officials is visiting the East of England in October to tap into the region’s major centres of excellence in plant sciences and food research. A high powered delegation of Canadian government officials is visiting the East of England in October to tap into the region’s major centres of excellence in plant sciences and food research.

The East of England visit is part of a groundbreaking UK fact-finding tour. It will include visits to world-renowned sciences facilities in both Hertfordshire and Norfolk.

A significant focus is likely to be the Norwich Research Park where more than 1,500 science staff work in the fields of food research and biotechnology related to crop-research.

The John Innes Centre and the Sainsbury Laboratory at NRP together form Europe’s premier research plant in genetic science and have forged research alliances with major corporates such as DuPont UK and Zeneca plc.

The Institute of Food Research at NRP is grant aided by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council but 50 per cent of revenues come from competitive research for bodies like Maff and the EU.
