Domino - a former Business of the Year - is back bidding for the biggest prize in this year’s Awards. Domino - a former Business of the Year - is back bidding for the biggest prize in this year’s Awards.

The company has entered the Growth & Expansion category and, despite turbulence in global markets, has continued to lead the world.

The Bar Hill business was founded in the UK in 1978 and is now a world leader in the design, manufacture and distribution of industrial inkjet and laser printing and coding solutions.

A global operation with turnover in excess of £130m, Domino employs over 1400 people around the world. Its products are sold in more than 120 countries through a network of 16 subsidiary offices and over 75 distributors.

To best serve its global customer base the company manufactures and assembles its products at a number of locations around the world including three sites in the UK, three sites in the US, and in Asia.

To help ensure the best possible service, it has implemented the international quality assurance accreditation ISO 9000, which now applies to several of its subsidiary offices including the UK, US, Spain, France, The Netherlands and China.

The Domino product range has expanded to meet the ever-increasing applications and markets for variable coding and, in addition to a recently launched new range of ink jet printers, includes a range of laser printers, sophisticated printer controller units and over 50 specialist inks used for specific customer applications.

Over the years the company has gained a number of awards, including the Queen’s Award for Technology and the Queen’s Award for Export Achievement (twice).

Continued research and development of new products, coding methods and product enhancements is an essential part of Domino’s philosophy, with over six per cent of itsannual turnover being re-invested.

Closing date for entry into the Awards is November 30 but, because the judging process is so thorough, companies are urged to submit their entries without delay.

Representatives of the sponsors may want to visit your business. This is the 12th year of the East of England Business Awards, run by Business Weekly and sponsored by Government land regeneration and disposals agency, English Partnerships, chartered accountants and business adviser Grant Thornton, and law firm Mills & Reeve. Categories and an Awards entry form are printed below. Companies can enter as many categories as they wish.

All shortlisted companies are handed a superb networking opportunity via the gala presentation dinner - being held next February in Cambridge - where the region’s leading chief executives gather.

John Stent, managing director of London Stansted Airport is guest speaker and will present glittering crystal obelisks and consultancy prizes to the winning companies in each category, plus the Business of the Year Award.

Past champions say winning the Awards has helped them raise cash and profile. All entries are featured within Business Weekly, helping you lift morale for staff, suppliers, clients and investors along the way. These Awards are arguably the most thoroughly judged in the UK.

Judges include senior executives from leading East of England organisations with global influence, such as ARM’s Robin Saxby, Dr Hermann Hauser, Michael Marshall, Chris Mellor of AWG, Mike Baunton, president of Perkins Engines in Peterborough and James Gray, chief executive of Invest East of England (formerly EEiA).
