Prosol Electronics, the contract electronics manufacturing company based in St Neots has been expanding fast in recent years and is a strong contender in the Awards 2001 Growth & Expansion category. The company was close to winning the former Enhancing Stakeholder Value category last year and has continued to impress. With Managing Director Nicola Kay a driving force, the business created around 30 new jobs by accelerating Phase Two of its expansion programme. The expansion more than doubled the company’s existing capacity at a cost of £1 million, taking the total investment in the facility to more than £2.3m. The strategy has enabled Prosol to provide its customers with a segregated area, dedicated to one particular product line. Since moving into its custom-built factory in St Neots in December 1999, Prosol has experienced strong growth, with turnover increasing from £3m in March 2000 to £4.8m in March 2001 and a growth target set for this year at £6m. The latest expansion has taken the company’s headcount to more than 120 - representing a threefold increase in staff numbers in around two years. Kay said: “When we moved into our new factory we had already planned further expansion. “We hit our growth targets two years ahead of schedule and had to bring the expansion forward. “I think that the fuel for growth has definitely been recognition that we are the small to medium batch manufacturer in the electronic manufacture services sector.”
