CCL spin-out Cyan Technology, which has entered the ‘Innovation - One to Watch’ category of the Awards, is developing a high performance family of microcontrollers specifically targeted at embedded communications.

The company is using a 16 bit Harvard architecture originally developed by Camb-ridge Consultants Ltd.

This architecture was specifically desi-gned for high performance in cost sensitive consumer products.

It has already been used in a range of applications including Blue-tooth, low cost pagers, ultra sonic gas meters and road tolling systems.

Cyan has significantly enhanced the CCL architecture working with a number of customers to produce a general-purpose microcontroller, which offers significant improvements in price/performance.

It is also working with Amino Communi-cations to offer a device which combines Ami-no’s unique inter-process communications standard IntAct alongside this high performance architecture.

The company is well funded having already received a first round from venture funds ETCapital and Cambridge Gateway in July of 2000.
