St Johns Innovation Centre in Cambridge is to roll out its Innovation Centre concept to new locations throughout the UK in a joint venture with Tartan Group. The venture has the backing of Close Brothers Investment Ltd and a £2.05 million funding package from Bank of Scotland Corporate Banking in Cambridge. The first of the new START-branded centres will be located at Fareham near Southampton. St John’s Innovation Centre provides cost effective, flexible office space for small knowledge-based businesses and start-ups that do not have the need or the cash to lease permanent office space of their own. Since its establishment in Cowley Road, Cambridge in 1987, the centre has established a first class reputation and has housed a number of successful companies. These have included Business Weekly in its formative years, Autonomy Corporation plc, the infrastructure software company, and Zeus Technology Ltd, the web server technology developer. Walter Herriot, the managing director of St John’s Innovation Centre Ltd said: “The START centres offer us an opportunity to replicate the success of St John’s Innovation Centre in places where we believe there is a demand for flexible accommodation that is well networked into the local business support community. “We fully expect to help create and develop new, successful businesses in these locations over the coming years.” |
