Cambridge based St John’s Innovation Centre is being forced to expand in order to accommodate continued demand for space from young, up-and-coming technology ventures. Limited access to growth capital and a series of failures among Cambridge’s early-stage technology companies has done little to retard entrepreneurial spirit, with SJIC expanding into an adjoining building in order to meet demand for floorspace. The start-up hothouse, which was established in 1987, has annexed the Jeffrey’s building at the Innovation Park. Two ventures, Paradigm and Praemonitors, have taken advantage of the extra room. Centre director Walter Herriot said: “Centre tenants operate in a wide range of leading-edge technologies including neural networks, multimedia, cryotechnology, biomedical imaging, lasers, chromatography, data communications, instrumentation and, increasingly, biotech. “Our expansion into the Jeffreys Building proves yet again that the ethos behind St John’s is highly effective.” |
