Bluetooth wireless specialist, Cambridge Silicon Radio – preparing for a London Stock Exchange float valuing the firm at around £250m – has won Business Weekly’s coveted East of England Business Awards. CSR’s Phil O’Donovan received the crystal obelisk for Business of the Year from guest speaker Mark Palios, chief executive of the Football Association, at a glittering presentation dinner in Cambridge. CSR joins a pantheon of world class East of England companies to have won the Business of the Year crown in a ‘Hall of Fame’ spanning 14 years of the Business Weekly competition. O’Donovan said: “This Award is a massive accolade for the company. We are enormously proud to be following the likes of ARM, GlobespanVirata, TTP and Acambis into the hall of fame as a Business of the Year. Business Weekly’s Award is tough to win and the calibre of the entrants this year makes this prize even more precious.” Other major Awards winners were: Innovation: Astex Technology; Growth & Expansion: MITIE Scotgate; Private Company: Sepura; Quoted Company: AVEVA Group; EEDA Spirit of Ingenuity Award: Ubisense. Competition sponsors were law firm Mills & Reeve, government regeneration agency English Partnerships, London Stock Exchange, business advisers Deloitte and the East of England Development Agency. • Executives attending the gala dinner donated £1,500 towards the Awards’ adopted charity, the Mary Wallace Cancer Support Centre – a support and information centre based at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge.
