Xaar plc, the Cambridge inkjet printing technology group, has sent turnover and profits soaring and pulled off a significant deal in the US as it bids to further grow the top line in 2005. On the day it posted turnover 21 per cent higher at £35.5m for the year ended December 31 and turned a £1.4m 2003 loss into a £6.1m profit, Xaar also unveiled a collaboration in nanotechnology. It is working with Mole-cular Imprints Inc (MII) of Austin, Texas – a University of Texas spin-out that has developed a unique combination of lithography and 3-D printing to pattern nano-scale devices and structures incorporating Xaar’s inkjet technology. MII has developed a range of equipment using the process in conjunction with Xaar’s inkjet printheads and electronics. This equipment is now being sold to integrated circuit, chip and device makers in a wide range of markets including semi-conductor component devices, photonic and optical structures, nano fabrication, data storage and advanced packaging. Xaar is now set to roll out new-generation inks and printheads and expand into fresh industrial markets.
