American based company UNITEK Power Systems is setting up its first UK base in September and has chosen Northampton as the location. American based company UNITEK Power Systems is setting up its first UK base in September and has chosen Northampton as the location.

The Florida-based company has launched UNITEK UK and taken new offices at Grange Park, Northampton. It supplies a range of UPS, surge protectors, rechargeable batteries and chargers to protect systems and data.

The UK Division will be headed by Jerry Hawkins, previously CEO of JBI Inc and an international telecoms consultancy group he founded in 1990. He also spent 20 years with Motorola Communi-cations in various senior roles worldwide.

He says: “Systems are constantly under threat from the daily peaks and troughs in the electrical power serving them.

“This aapplies from the disruption of losing valuable data and information on our home PC’s to the huge cost both financially and in terms of lost, often never to be retrieved information, to the disruption of whole networks and the impact that this can have on an industry.”

Company president Arnaldo Gonzales says: “It makes sense to have our own resources in the UK. The business has grown in excess of 50 per cent in the last five years and indicates a growing awareness of the need to protect from domestic to large scale installations.”

Since its inception in 1996, Unitek has expanded into 15 countries including logistics hubs in the US, Hong Kong, France, Spain and the Netherlands.
