Prelude Trust plc, which specialises in early stage, technology-based businesses, has invested a further £187,500 in m-Spatial as part of a £1 million funding round alongside co-investors Alta Berkley and Delta Partners. Prelude will be investing a further £187,500 in February 2006, having invested £1.75 million to date, representing a 31.75 per cent stake in the company. Based in Cambridge and founded in June 2001, m-spatial is the market leader in the application of spatial intelligence within mobile portals and their associated content services. Notably its Mapway mapping and routing products are used extensively by the majority of UK mobile operators and a growing number in Europe. However, m-spatial now has its eye on a much larger market opportunity. ‘Local Search’ provides the means to find suppliers of goods and services in an area and is a fast growing element of web searching via a PC. To m-spatial the Holy Grail is to be able to do this on the move using a mobile phone. The challenges include the small screen size and the importance of reducing the number of ‘clicks’ (key presses) required to both identify a suitable business and access information about it from a variety of sources. m-spatial has the technology to tackle these challenges and make Mobile Local Search a great user experience.
