Borehamwood manufacturer CNS Farnell’s plans to expand overseas were given a significant boost by UK Trade & Investment’s ‘Passport to Export’ programme – and India is one of its major markets.
Borehamwood manufacturer CNS Farnell’s plans to expand overseas were given a significant boost by UK Trade & Investment’s ‘Passport to Export’ programme – and India is one of its major markets. The Hertfordshire company designs and develops test equipment for the civil engineering and ceramics industries. It signed up to the Passport to Export programme three years ago and attended a focused workshop. Managing director, Neil Gibson said: “The whole process is really well thought out and made us think through all the steps involved in generating new business overseas. “Consequently we were able to deal with existing and potential distributors with a lot more confidence.” Passport to Export is UK Trade & Investment’s flagship assessment and skills-based programme that provides new and inexperienced exporters with the training, planning and ongoing support they need to succeed overseas. Funding from the Passport programme enabled CNS Farnell to go to Shanghai as part of a Construction Industry Assoc-iation delegation and, as a direct result, it was able to appoint a distributor in China. Today more than 70 per cent of the company’s sales come from India, the United States, Hong Kong, China and Korea.
