TPF Group takes total UK spend over £15m with Northampton investment

The TPF Group has invested £1.5 million into state-of-the-art finishing equipment for the company’s main manufacturing plant, the Print Factory in Northampton, taking its total UK spend over the last two years past the £15m mark. The equipment, provided by print solutions giant Heidelberg, includes a full guillotine flowline system, two folders, two top of the range saddle-stitchers and a Speedbander.

Each of the products is JDF-compliant and, as such, ‘future-proof.’

TPF Group operations director, Phil Brooks, said: “TPF works for a UK and European market, including major brands like Sky, P&O, The Tussauds Group and Ladbrokes. We win and retain work by having a comprehensive range of services and this investment is another big boost to our firepower.

“We are a highly innovative group and in whatever area of the business we invest, the equipment has to be robust, reliable and flexible to meet a great range of customer needs.”

TPF’s investment en-hances an already comprehensive finishing department which can also offer collating, shrink wrapping, mailing embossing and debossing, laminating, ind-exing, comb and wire-binding and drilling.

George Clarke, managing director of Heidelberg, said: “Everyone knows what a tough market it is at the moment so it’s great for the industry to see TPF investing in the future with such confidence.

“JDF connectivity is achievable with all the products supplied. Digital data and workflow is no longer limited to the prepress and press environments and this finishing department will be state of the art.”

JDF (Job Definition Format) is an industry standard designed to simplify information exchange bet-ween different applications and systems in and around the graphic arts industry.

Based on the popular XML (eXtensible Markup Language), it ensures maximum possible portability between different platforms and ready interaction with Internet-based systems.

The Polar 137XT Autotrim is supplied with full materials handling including jogger, stacklift and Transomat unloading device.

Waste paper is removed automatically leaving the operator free to concentrate on cutting not clearing.

The two folders selected in this round of investment are both buckle machines – a TH 82 and a Ti 52 – each with a continuous feeder and stacker.

The two Stitchmaster ST450s, include one four-station and another a six-station model.

The Speedbinder 603 sleeve wraps products from a folder or saddle-stitcher and can accommodate packs of 100 x 75mm to 940 x235mm and there is an integrated control system to check the correct number of pieces are in each wrapped unit.
