Earlier in the week, Autonomy reported that leading Spanish newspaper, El Mundo, had selected its meaning-based technology to underpin the Spanish speaking world’s most consulted online news site, elmundo.es

This followed record quarter three results and news that the Cambridge firm had pushed into the next phase of development and growth on its Chinese consumer internet venture with CCTV, China’s state broadcaster and the world’s largest Chinese-language broadcaster.

At $60.2 million (£32.1m), Autonomy’s revenue for the three months ended September 30 was up 137 per cent over the $25.5m (£13.6m) from the same period in 2005 while pre-tax profit rose 220 per cent to $15.9m (£8.5m) over 2005’s $5m (£2.7m).

elmundo.es announced record figures reaching 10 million unique readers in June, a 65 per cent increase from statistics recorded at the beginning of the year. Autonomy is currently licensed to index over two million documents for an unlimited number of visitors to its site.

Autonomy was chosen as the only technology able to offer advanced functionality such as automatic hyperlinking across a range of news sources and different languages. Autonomy’s ability to incorporate voice and video content and understanding of the online environment were also significant factors.
