The M1 corridor’s new transatlantic business class airline, Silverjet, has begun to take US bookings for its service between New York and Luton after it was awarded the appropriate licences by the US Department of Transportation.
The decision means Silverjet can proceed with its 25 January launch date, which will get off the ground with a flight from London Luton into New York’s Newark Liberty International Airport. A round-up of Silverjet’s progress so far was made in its first interim results since its May IPO. The airline stated it has: Secured three Boeing 767s, with options on a further two; agreements signed with four major global distribution systems – Amadeus, Galileo, Sabre and Worldspan – as well as with a number of leading travel agencies; and a dedicated Silverjet terminal under option at London Luton Airport. Silverjet CEO, Lawrence Hunt, said: “We are determined to ensure that we do things differently to the competition, particularly the legacy carriers. “We are challenging the airline status quo. Flying with us will mean that you can turn up at our dedicated Silverjet terminal just 30 minutes before your flight, sleep in a luxury award winning flat bed and choose what you want to eat when you want to eat it.” |
