The world’s leading provider of wind energy has sent a fact-finding mission to the East of England to tap into the region’s own offshore wind power expertise, writes Sam Fountain.
The world’s leading provider of wind energy has sent a fact-finding mission to the East of England to tap into the region’s own offshore wind power expertise, writes Sam Fountain. Suffolk, the home of the UK’s largest wind turbine, hosted a conference between German and UK renewable energy industry specialists to showcase the East of England’s green energy centre. One third of the world’s wind generated electricity is produced by Germany’s 16,000 installed wind turbines, making it the world leader in wind power electricity generation. Most of Germany’s windfarms are inland however and off-shore wind farms, like the Scroby Sands installation in Norfolk, have a much higher capacity and it is the UK’s expertise in this field which prompted the network. Offshore Wind – The Germany / UK connectionπ, organised by the EU-funded POWER (Pushing Offshore Wind Energy Regions) project – offered the opportunity for the East of England Energy Group to showcase the region’s offshore training facilities in Lowestoft and the Scroby Sands Windfarm. A team from Suffolk County Council and POWER’s East of England representatives also attended an open day to promote the East of England offshore wind sector in Greece.
