Herts-based pub operator JD Wetherspoon, has announced plans to open 30 new premises, creating 1,200 new jobs during 2007. The firm will add to its existing portfolio of 662 pubs with new outlets all across the UK including Sheffield, Bishop Auck-land, St Austell, Hertford and Devizes with a final spend of £35m, accompanied by an additional £25m spent on its existing pubs. The company is confident that the implementation of the smoking ban will not affect the group’s sales. “Our non-smoking pubs have proven very popular and this has given us the impetus to open more in 2007,” said chief executive, John Hudson.
