Italian mobile operator opts for m-spatial LSDE

m-spatial’s Local Search and Discovery Engine (LSDE) has been adopted by Italian mobile operator, Wind, to underpin its Seat Pagine Gialle’s (Seat PG) Yellow and White pages directory services via its i-mode and WAP mobile internet portals. It is the first contract with an Italian operator for the Cambridge-based specialist in mobile local search solutions and further good news for the firm following the release of its Converged Local Search and the announcement that it has extended its relationship with UK mobile operator, Orange.

Wind’s service delivers a wealth of domestic and business information directly to the mobiles of 800 thousand i-mode users and 14 million WAP users. It is the first operator deployment of the joint Seat PG / m-spatial mobile application that was launched in July 2006.

The Converged Local Search is a major new initiative designed to stimulate mass market consumer adoption of local search on mobile devices by seamlessly linking access to local information across web-sites, 118/411 directory services, mobile data services and personal navigation devices.

For example, users would not only find their way to a nearby cinema, but would also find out what’s on and book a ticket, providing a competitive advantage in an increasingly commoditised market, in addition to offering access to a new revenue stream.

Orange UK is now sponsoring a trial of the Cambridge firm’s new Java version of the Orange Local mobile search and discovery service.
