World chemicals heavyweight, Johnson Matthey, has struck a long term collaboration with the China Petrochemical International Company Ltd (Sinopec) that intends to position the two as leading global suppliers of oil refinery hydroprocessing catalysts. Under the new commercial agreement, the Royston firm’s Process Catalysts and Technologies business will market Sinopec’s hydroprocessing catalysts to oil refineries outside China.

The initial focus of the agreement will be on refinery hydroprocessing catalysts but collaboration in other oil refining catalyst markets will also be investigated.

“This collaboration represents an important strategic step for Johnson Matthey, strengthening our product and technologies offering into a new target catalyst market,” said Neil Carson, Johnson Matthey’s chief executive.

“Sinopec are the third largest oil refiner in the world and a major player in associated catalyst technology.”

JM Catalysts manufactures base and precious metal process catalysts, fine chemicals and adsorbents.
