Norwich construction and support services company May Gurney has won a five-year signalling framework with Network Rail expected to be worth around £10m a year.
The win will form a major piece of work for May Gurney Rail Services and will see its operatives installing, testing and commissioning minor signalling works across East Anglia and the northern Home Counties. Although there is no guarantee of work, the contracts let under the five-year period of the framework will range in value from approximately £100k to £5m each and in total are expected to be worth around £10m each year to the company. David Sterry, chief executive at May Gurney, said: “This significant business win strengthens May Gurney’s position as a key partner for maintenance and renewal services in the rail sector and validates our strategy of focussing on developing long-term relationships with our customers.” The schemes within the framework will include such activities as designing and building projects for the refurbishment of level crossings, improvements to the reliability of the signalling system, life extension works for existing systems - all aimed at making the network more reliable. In a second success for the company, Team Van Oord – a partnership between Van Oord, May Gurney and Mackley – has been selected as one of seven contractors by the Environment Agency for a second-generation flood defence, waterways and water resources capital works programme. With an overall value of £500 million, works will be split into two categories – core work and coastal work. |
