David Richards, founder of Banbury-based Formula 1 and Aston Martin Le Mans team operator, Prodrive heads up a consortium of investors which has bought Newport Pagnell's luxury marque Aston Martin for £479m. The brand's previous carer for almost 20 years, Ford has finally found a buyer capable of carrying the torch of the James Bond's preferred ride since announcing intent to sell in August of last year. Ford decided to sell the car maker, which accounts for just one per cent of its annual sales to stem the tide of a $12.7bn loss made last year.

Aston, which has had a base in Newport Pagnell, Bucks since the 50's is to keep its CEO, Ulrich Bez.

“Under the ownership of Ford we have become a successful, profitable company and I will be working with the new owners to build on this great foundation,” said Bez.

In the consortium along with Richards are US banker, John Sinders and two Kuwait-based investment companies.
