The SHAREtrack 100 in association with PricewaterhouseCoopers edged ahead 0.15 per cent to 6731 in the last week, contrasting with falls in both UK and US Indices.
There was a very sharp fall in the market last Wednesday and an almost equally sharp recovery the following day. Despite the turbulence engendered by these rapid changes in market sentiment, the constituents of the SHAREtrack ended at levels very close to those at which they traded a week ago. Only one stock ended down more than 10 per cent – generic biotech drug maker, GeneMedix, which closed out the week down 11 per cent. There were four stocks rising by more than 10 per cent, headed by Asterand. The biotech company rose by a stately 21 per cent on news that Apjohn Ventures, a US venture capital fund, had increased its stake to 3.2 per cent. Meanwhile electronic payment specialist PayPoint was up 13 per cent after it issued a trading statement that it would exceed analysts’ expectations, and pump developer Pursuit Dynamics, was up 11 per cent, correcting a recent slide. |
