Richard Knights has taken over the post of senior partner at the Cambridge operation of one of the world’s ‘Big Four’ accountancies, Deloitte.
Both a partner and head of the office’s audit advisory team, Knights stepped into the top position at the beginning of the month, taking over from Andy Swarbrick who will now concentrate on developing the office’s growing Entrepreneurial Business team. Swarbrick joined Deloitte in 1975 as a graduate trainee, working through the ranks to the position of partner nine years later before being promoted to office senior partner in 1999. During his charge, Deloitte’s Cambridge office has grown in size and stature, and with more than 200 staff and a turnover growth of around 30 per cent over the last eight years, it is now the largest single office accountancy practice in the East Anglia region. “After eight years as senior partner I felt the time was right for me to hand over the reins and get back to concentrating on helping to grow and develop the Entrepreneurial Business team,” said Swarbrick. Knights joined Deloitte’s London office in 1983 and was made partner ten years later. In 1999 he moved to Cambridge to head up the office’s 100-strong audit advisory team, which he will continue to do as office senior partner. “I am very much looking forward to taking on this exciting challenge,” said Knights. “In the last eight years Andy has done a fantastic job in establishing Deloitte as a market leader for business advisory services in East Anglia, which I will now be looking to build on going forward. “The Cambridge market place is energetic and we have shaped our practice accordingly to work with emerging new services and opportunities. “Increasingly, our clients are looking to us for a range of services, both in Cambridge and overseas, and our scale of operation enables us to work successfully with businesses of all sizes – from owner-managed start-ups to billion pound multi-nationals. “These services are delivered by outstanding professionals with great experience and specialisation, and I feel privileged to be head of the team.” |
