The Sharetrack Index had a poor week, falling 3.7 per cent to 6695.8 with surprisingly few features.
Two relatively small stocks rose by fractionally over 10 per cent – Phytopharm and MTL with rises of 13.5 per cent and 11.5 per cent. Phytopharm rose on the announcement of pre-clinical data showing that Cogane reversed the changes in the area of the brain involved in Parkinson’s disease. There were two falls of 10 per cent or more at Trans Siberian and Screen Technology, where the FD, Simon Barton is resigning but will stay on until the end of the month. The overall market reacted to a sharp rise in the 10-year bond yields on both sides of the Atlantic, a rise that broke through the trend of lower long term rates over the past 20 years.
