Despite a turbulent close to its year, Hemel Hempsted-based Eckoh has posted a significant increase in pre-tax profits for the year to 31 March 2007, along with two new contract wins and an extension. The automated call handling specialist reported pre-tax profits of £8.4m for the full year, up from £1.04m last time despite a drop in turnover from £127m to £103m this year.

The firm said that a strong sales pipeline for 2007 has given it confidence in maintaining its position in the UK hosted speech recognition market, and it is committed to extending its footprint into other European territories.

It also announced a three year contract to provide communications to United Utilities in the event of power outage, a seven year contract with a UK logistics firm and a three year extension to its existing age verification contract with O2.

Shares in Eckoh have seen an almost eight per cent gain, rising 0.74p to 10.24p.
