easyJet extends Airbus aircraft order by 35

Luton-based airline, easyJet has announced that it has bolstered its order with Airbus, adding a further 35 units to its order with the aircraft manufacturer, bringing the total size of the requisition, including options to 315.

The no-frills carrier said that the enlarged order underpinned its long-term growth plans and lessened the firm's environmental impact, owing to the 15 per cent boost in efficiency per seat, over the older Boeing 737-300 which it will be replacing.

The augmented order represents 122 aircraft with a list price of over £3.5bn, with purchase rights to a further 88 planes, adding to the 105 Airbus A319s easyJet has already taken delivery of.

“These aircraft are subject to substantial price concessions from the list price,” the firm said.

CEO Andy Harrison added, “This major new aircraft order supports our continuing growth making us one of Europe's largest airlines.”

Shares in easyJet remain largely unchanged at 522.5p.
