BAA Stansted officials have stepped up talks with Chinese airline operators in a bid to bring direct services on board as soon as possible. A super-slick brochure outlining Stansted’s credentials in the Chinese marketplace has been translated into Mandarin and set in front of airline bosses and government influencers in China. It stresses Stansted’s unique position midway between Europe’s financial and technology capitals, London and Cambridge. Stansted officials have followed up a series of head-to-head meetings with airlines in China with ongoing dialogue as part of its Asian route development strategy. Low cost Chinese carriers keen to enter the UK market figure large on the Stansted radar. A BAA spokesman told Business Weekly: “With so many Chinese companies now looking to invest in the East of England or float on the AIM market – and given the number of Cambridge and Essex area companies now scaling up their operations in China – there is a clear need for a direct service. “We are doing everything in our power to bring that about and have been encouraged by the response of the Chinese carriers.” |
