Norfolk broker, Castle Insurance Services, has been acquired by Essex based Equity Group – one of the country’s largest motor and home insurance companies – in a deal of undisclosed value. Established in 1984, Castle Insurance Services was owned by Paul Matthews who took over the company from its founder, Jack Neill, on his retirement in September 2004. The business handles both personal lines and commercial insurance, having grown steadily through local acquisition.

Matthews and all existing employees will continue trading from Castle’s Sprowston premises which will be re-branded as Equity Insurance Brokers.

Equity Insurance Group is based in Essex. Its national network comprises more than 80 branches, four regional offices and two UK-based customer contact centres.

Mike Hutton, Equity’s acquisitions director added: “Castle fits our purchase criteria.

“It’s a very well-established high street-based broking business and provides a natural extension to our existing East Anglian branches in King’s Lynn and Swaffham.”
