Farmland value to rocket
Written by News Desk

Farmland prices in the East of England are set to hit record heights, outstripping the rest of the UK, according to farmland specialists at Strutt & Parker. They predict a 25 per cent rise over the next 12 months.

Spokesman Tim Fagan said: "Average values of £5,000 an acre over the country are not too far away and here in the eastern region, given our quality commercial land and first rate farmers and growers, we are likely to see values in excess of this."

Prices rose dramatically over the year to the end of September, fuelled by soaring commodity prices and a persistent shortage of land, says Strutt & Parker.

In England over the last six months, arable land has averaged £4,262 per acre and pasture land £4,003, increases of 33.9 per cent and 23.8 per cent. Reflecting the meagre current supply, only 77,000 acres of land in England were available on the open market at the end of September.
