The East Midlands and Mid Anglia region of the manufacturers' organisation EEF has just launched its new training course directory for 2008 and has introduced several new courses in response to business demands.

The new 80-page brochure now details around 100 courses in four key areas - management and personal development, HR and legal, health and safety, and environmental.

These range from one-day workshops to residential courses, delivered at EEF's training centres in Barleythorpe, Rutland, and Sandy, Bedfordshire, or in-house.The organisation, which provides training for members and non-members, recorded a particularly successful training year in 2007, with organisations including Boots, JJ Churchill, Honda, Lafarge and Morris Material Handling reporting performance improvements and an enhanced knowledge base following attendance on its training courses.

New courses in areas such as dealing with dangerous substances, explosive atmospheres and graduate development programmes have now been introduced to boost EEF's existing offering after a review of client needs.

Similarly, new interaction and participation formats have been introduced to the working safely and managing safely programmes.Robert Watson, Chief Executive of EEF EMMA said: “We are continually monitoring our training to ensure it is reaching the right targets and covering identified needs. All of our trainers are industry professionals so can speak from personal experience.

This year, we've looked to enhance our training base after listening to our members and keeping abreast of changing legislation and industry trends.” Karen Winfield, who oversees UK Human Resources and Health and Safety for Morris Material Handling Ltd, was one of the first to advocate the new brochure, having used EEF Barleythorpe for several years for Morris's management development needs.

“Having worked closely with us and learned our business, they have expertly designed a tailor-made training programme, addressing our key business drivers to help us achieve the 20% required growth,” she said.

Karen said her managers had found the EEF course work challenging and immensely beneficial. “Within the business we can clearly see and measure the benefits in having people committed to the expenditure on the training as well as having developed people managers,” she said. “Without reservation, we will continue to use EEF in the future and recommend the EEF Barleythorpe training team.”
