Specialist gastro-pharma, Alizyme has announced its collaboration with a Japanese bio-venture company to co-develop its ulcerative colitis drug in Japan.
The Cambridge-based company said that its wholly owned subsidiary, Alizyme Therapeutics Ltd has entered into a strategic partnership and co-development agreement with TSD, a business focused on strategic partnering activities that involve in-licensing pharmaceutical drug candidates for development and commercialisation in Japan. The deal will see TSD granted an exclusive licence agreement for Alizyme's gastro drug, Colal-Pred in Japan, and identify new drug candidates in Japan for in-licensing or acquisition by Alizyme for development outside the country. TSD will be predominantly responsible for Phase I and Phase II clinical development costs, Alizyme said, and that all future milestones and royalties in Japan would be shared equally. It added that TSD would actively seek partners for late stage development and commercialisation of Colal-Pred in Japan. "We have maintained a strong relationship with Dr Shiho, the CEO and founder of TSD, following his time with Takeda," said Alizyme's CEO, Tim McCarthy, "and are excited by the many new opportunities that this partnership will offer in the overall corporate development of Alizyme." "Today's announcement follows last week's announced partnership with Prometheus for North American rights for Colal-Pred and marks another important step in our commercialisation activities," he added. Shares in Alizyme have slipped slightly from the peak it reached following the Prometheus announcement, falling 1.25p to 76.25p. |
