Pfizers new base at Chesterford Research Park near Cambridge The quality of the world-leading research on offer in the East of
England has been reaffirmed after the biggest pharmaceutical company on
the globe announced the lease of 52,000 sq ft of R & D space at
Chesterford Research Park.
The research giant, Pfizer, is to establish a new research operation in
Chesterford, also home to Sosei and BioFocus DPI, taking up residence
in two buildings at the park.
Pfizer already has an R & D base at Granta Park at Great Abington
near Cambridge which it will retain, according to a spokesperson for the company. The news has been welcomed by local economic influencers. “Pfizer’s
expansion underscores the success of the region in not just attracting
but keeping world-class companies here with its combination of skilled
labour, excellent communications links, a good working environment and,
increasingly, its reputation as a specialist biotech hub,” said
director of the Greater Cambridge Partnership, Martin Garratt.
Dr Jeff Solomon, CEO of biotech cluster facilitator, ERBI, added: “As a
committed supporter of the Cambridge region’s biotech companies, I am
delighted to hear of Pfizer’s growth within the area, which
demonstrates our continued pulling power and is a further indicator of
the strength and attractiveness of this region for the sector.”
Pfizer will take occupation at the brand new Emmanuel Laboratory at
Chesterford, together with additional space in the existing Building 17
at the Park, totalling some 4,830 sq m (52,000 sq ft).
The Emmanuel Laboratory building comprises some 3,860 sq m (41,850 sq
ft) with approximately 29 metre deep footplates able to facilitate an
adjacent laboratory, write-up and office space on two floors.
Newly built, the lab incorporates all the latest shell and core design
requirements for R & D occupation, including multiple dedicated
separate loading accesses, an autonomous, extensive plant room and
separate external stores. “The Emmanuel Laboratory is a high quality
product on a premier Research Park.
“It is a natural home for Pfizer’s R & D expansion within the
Cambridge Cluster,” said John Granger, head of the technology team at
Carter Jonas, which acted as joint agent for Morley Fund Management.
Pfizer employs approximately 100,000 people worldwide, discovering,
developing, manufacturing and marketing prescription medicines to treat
a diverse range of human diseases. The company has its UK business
headquarters in Surrey and its European R & D headquarters in
Sandwich, Kent.
