![]() Planning success: Haverhill Business Park developer, Carisbrooke, has been granted planning consent to build a 191,000 sq ft distribution facility for Culina Logistics The design and build distribution facility will be situated on the eastern side of the Haverhill Business Park, on a 12.36 acre site. The development will also comprise 15,000 sq ft of office space, 200 parking spaces, 75 HGV spaces and 25 dock-level spaces. Established in 1994, Culina provides supply chain solutions to some of the leading food and drink brand manufacturers in the UK. The company currently employs over 750 people, with facilities in Market Drayton (Shropshire), Milton Keynes and Prime Point (Staffordshire). From January 1, 2008, the company will merge with Baylis Logistics and will be known as Culina Logistics Limited. The new company will employ 1,300, have a turnover of £125 million and operate from eight sites. Nic Rumsey of Carisbrooke said: “350 jobs are expected to be created with Culina coming to the Haverhill Business Park; this is great news for the town, region and the park.” This latest planning consent marks the end of a busy year for the Haverhill Business Park. In February 2007 planning permission was granted for Carisbrooke to create a 0.5 acre concrete parking area for Stagecoach, one of the largest bus operators in the UK. In spring 2007 Carisbrooke won detailed planning consent to build a 37,000 sq ft unit for HID Corporation, the premier manufacturer of contactless access control cards and readers for the security industry. During the summer Carisbrooke set up a car share scheme on the park’s website; the scheme allows people who work on the park to share the cost of commuting and help reduce pollution in and around the town. The year has also seen business booming at the Days Inn Hotel on the park. The hotel is regularly full to capacity and the variety of meeting rooms and conferencing facilities has proved popular with local businesses. The Haver Arms restaurant and pub, also located on the business park, has been a big hit with the park’s working community and local people alike. With the capacity to seat 180 people for lunch or dinner, it is a perfect place to unwind after work or to meet for an informal working lunch. Companies looking to relocate to the park in 2008 will join the likes of: Buildbase Builders Merchants, which relocated to the park from Haverhill town centre, Percy Dalton’s Famous Peanut Company, which has been based on the park since 2005 and Terrence Barker Ltd, a company specialising in the manufacture of fuel storage tanks, which has its headquarters on the park. Haverhill Business Park straddles the Suffolk and Essex border and has 28 acres remaining for mixed-use developments including industrial warehousing, offices, and R & D. Letting agents for the scheme are Cambridge-based Carter Jonas and London-based Rumsey & Partners. Culina was represented by sbh.uk. |
