Image from The Edge: A CGI, rather than a postcard, of how Yarmouth’s leisure complex will look Great Yarmouth has been given a first glimpse of how a £35 million leisure complex planned for the Pleasure Beach, which hopes to bring in 1,000 new jobs will look.
Named The Edge and showcased at the Priory Centre in Norfolk, the complex is set to transform the seafront and extend the Golden Mile with a new casino, cinema, bowling alley, hotel, restaurants and bars.
“It’s a spectacular and exciting project which will create a high-quality new leisure destination in Yarmouth,” said Pleasure Beach managing director Albert Jones, the man behind the idea.
Jones has already invested £700,000 in preparing the best possible concept for a complex that will revitalise wasteland between the Pleasure Beach and the new outer harbour.
There is already outline planning consent for a leisure complex on the one-time South Denes caravan park and Jones said there had been substantial investment in an eye-catching and attractive design.
It will house one of the country’s leading casinos, a 10-screen cinema, a 22-lane bowling alley, a 180-room hotel and combination of restaurants and bars.
The casino proposal is still awaiting details from a government rethink.
Of the 1,000 jobs, 450 of them will be formed at the Aspers Casino.
“We are creating a centre with a real mixture of attractions which will appeal to a wide range of people from all over the area and really enhance business in the town,” said Jones.
“We plan to use a blend of materials for the complex which are sympathetic to the existing area and its natural assets like the beach. It will be not only a year-round attraction for visitors but a great asset and entertainment centre for people living here.
“The complex will form a new gateway to the Golden Mile and be a massive boost to our tourist industry. It shows our family’s continued commitment to the town and determination to continually invest in its future.”
