The Cambridge-based company said that successful results from the trial would allow a Marketing Authorisation Application (MAA) to be submitted for the European Union in the second half of the year.

Alizyme, which announced two commercialisation deals for the drug towards the end of last year, said that COLAL-PRED continued to generate partnering and commercialisation interest, and that it anticipated concluding additional territorial transactions during 2008.

The firm also said that the Phase III trial of its irritable bowel syndrome drug, Renzapride remained on track to provide results in April and that it is preparing to commence second Phase II trial of ATL-104 during H2 this year.

"We continue with a number of ongoing discussions with potential partners for the commercialisation of our products," said CEO, Tim McCarthy, "and this activity together with results from our two Phase III clinical studies and further clinical development progress will provide for significant news flow through 2008."

Shares in the pharma have dropped, despite the seemingly positive news, falling 2.75p, or over four per cent to 61p.
