Holographic laser projection specialist, Light Blue Optics (LBO), has opened a new development centre in the US to accelerate its commercialisation programme, the company’s first overseas premises. ![]() LBO chief executive, Dr Chris Harris Co-founder and VP business development, Dr Edward Buckley, will move from LBO’s Cambridge headquarters to the new office in Colorado Springs where he will work with newly appointed Dr David Bolt, VP of engineering responsible for all product engineering activities within LBO. The Cambridge facility retains its role as LBO’s centre for innovation, new product concepts and European business development. Light Blue Optics’ CEO, Dr Chris Harris, said: “The establishment of LBO’s US operations is a critical step in the development of the company and we are now well positioned to deliver on our vision of becoming the world’s leading supplier of miniature projection systems. “Our new engineering and business development operations bring great additional strength to the group, enabling us to better support our customers in North America and execute our fast-paced product roadmap.” Founded in 2004, LBO has developed an innovative miniature projection technology that uses laser light sources and patented holographic techniques to deliver large, full-colour, high-quality video images that remain in focus at all distances – even on curved or angled surfaces. LBO is targeting a Q4 2008 inaugural product launch and this expansion represents a major milestone in its development, coming off the back of a year which saw the firm move into larger premises in Cambridge, sign two major development deals with US companies and raise $26 million (£12.7m) in a Series ‘A’ funding round. Dr Bolt has 20 years of experience in working with global partners and managing large, multi-disciplinary teams of engineers to deliver world-class electro-optic products into volume production and has previously worked for Philips Electronics and Plasmon. He said: “LBO has exciting and unique technology and we have quickly managed to recruit a highly experienced development team in Colorado that I believe can deliver our product roadmap to high-volume market.” Dr. Buckley added: “My relocation is in response to our customers’ requirements and will strengthen LBO’s ability to build strategic relationships and key development partnerships across North America and Asia.” |
