 Luton Borough Council has also been awarded £1.3m, which will mean total investment in the local workforce will rise to £6.6m as the European awards will be match funded by the two councils.

Cllr John Scott, Bedfordshire County Council Cabinet member for Economic Growth, said: “This is excellent news and will mean many more training and work opportunities for the people and businesses of Bedfordshire. The fact that we are matching the funding just shows how committed we are to the future of this county.”

Local businesses and organisations are being invited to attend a special launch of the 2008 - 2010 joint prospectus Bedfordshire and Luton at Silsoe Conference Centre, Cranfield University, on 29 January between 2pm and 4pm.

The event will be an opportunity for people to learn more about the council’s bid to provide ESF funded activities, and how to submit a tender for contracts to deliver training across Bedfordshire and Luton.

It is open to all local organisations, in particular those providing training aimed at young people (14-19) not in employment, education or training and for adults to gain employability skills.
