 Meldex said on the 14th that it had received an approach for the company, prompting a huge surge in value and taking the company's shares up by 57 per cent.

Today's announcement, which it stipulated does not provide assurance that any
definitive offer will be made, has had a slightly more sedate effect on the share price, which had calmed down the day following the initial announcement.

Meldex said that the special committee will comprise CEO, Richard Trevillion, the CFO, the senior independent non-exec director, and will work with Houlihan Lokey, the financial adviser appointed to advise on strategic options for the company.

Shares in the Cambridge-based firm have grown over eight per cent, or 5p to 69p.
