ITM is seeking two patents from the same application
Alternative energy innovator, ITM Power has been granted a US patent for its new class of ionically conducting materials at the heart of the firm's hydrogen-linked power generation technology.

The Gt Chesterford-based innovator said that the patent application covers both the unique crosslinked hydrophilic ionic materials and the novel production process.

It added that the application has been identified as two separate inventions, and as such the company has decided to allow the patent examination process to proceed under the US 'divisional process' which offers the possibility of achieving two independent patents from the one original application.

It also said that the divisional application covering the novel "in-situ" production process is now under review.

"We are delighted to be granted the US patent covering our new class of ionically conducting materials and we look forward to updating shareholders on the progress with the second patent covering the low cost manufacturing process," said CEO, Jim Heathcote.

"When granted, two patents will significantly enhance the company's portfolio of intellectual property."

After an initial boost, shares in ITM have taken a five per cent tumble to 98p, possibly ahead of the company's interims, due out tomorrow.
