The Cambridge-based firm said that the Soluleaves filing, the company's first in the EU for a Soluleaves product in a pharmaceutical application, is due to be
submitted to the European Union Regulatory Authorities during Q2 2008.

"The regulatory submission of a Soluleaves product for the European Union is a key milestone for the business, and will enhance our ability to develop key strategic partnerships," said chief development officer, Steve Martin.

The product, DBP147, is a local anaesthetic for the treatment of sore mouth and throat conditions and utilises the Soluleaves "dissolve-in-the-mouth" film strips technology, which quickly release active ingredients, Meldex said.

The company also announced plans to launch a range of nutritional supplements in the European Union using its Meltums technology during Q4 2008 in addition to its previously announced novel nicotine-containing Meltums product.

The company's shares have seen modest growth past 67p.
