 The Herts-based company said that discussions are in progress between the two telecoms services firms which may or may not lead to an offer for Eckoh.

Eckoh announced at the end of last year that it had sold off its Connection Makers division, and implemented a cost reduction programme in an effort to stem losses after the company swung into loss for the six months to September.

The company, which has struggled since news of phone-in scandals early last year, posted pre-tax loss of £771k compared with a profit of £107k, as revenues fell to £17.95m from £43.99m last time.

The announcement has had a very different effect on the shares of the two micro-capped firms, with Eckoh remaining largely unchanged at 6p, while Telephonetics has seen a gain of over 17 per cent to 8.5p.

There can be no certainty that an offer will be made, or the terms on which such an offer will be made, Eckoh said, and further announcements will be made in due course as and when necessary.
