All-business class carrier, Eos is to launch a new route to Dubai from Stansted in the summer.
Eos said it plans to launch the daily direct service to the world's fastest growing city in July. The airline will also launch a new connection to Newark, New Jersey from May. While the news has been warmly greeted by Stansted Airport, which has made no secret of its medium term aim to extend its route network in the Middle and Far East, it will not be welcomed by Eos's direct competitor, Silverjet - also based in the East of England - which launched its Luton to Dubai route in November. Nick Barton, business development and planning director BAA Stansted said: “This is fantastic news and another positive step in taking forward our ambition to further develop long haul services, especially across new and emerging markets such as the Middle East, China and India from Stansted. “Dubai is already established as a key destination for both business and leisure travellers, and its attraction to investors - particularly second home owners – will ensure this excellent new service from Eos will be greeted with excitement and delight by passengers from across the region. Eos launched its first routes from Stansted in 2005, with its New York JFK route growing to a four times daily service. As a PR point-scoring exercise, the announcement couldn't have been better timed. The major news emanating from the Silverjet camp today was that it appears to have lost the confidence of a potential investor. The viability of the all-business class model has been the subject of considerable debate since Maxjet, which also used Stansted as its UK hub, lapsed into bankruptcy.
