Bel Canto's CES-award winning iPod dock features Sonic Focus' technology
Computer systems maker, ARC International has announced its £3.3m acquisition of a US-based audio enhancement technology provider.
The Elstree-based firm said that the purchase, whiuch will comprise £750k in shares over two years, will allow the inclusion of Sonic Focus' technology in ARC sound advanced subsystems hardware platforms.
The acquisition is not expected to negatively affect operating results for 2008, ARC said, and Sonic Focus' operations were breaking even at the year end in September, with about £600k in revenue.
The Northern California-based company aims to bring music enthusiasts closer to the original performance with the highest-quality audio experience possible by improving the quality of live concerts being streamed via the Internet.
"The ARC Sound and ARC Sound Advanced Subsystems are ideal hardware platforms that will allow Sonic Focus's audio enhancement technology to penetrate deeper into consumer electronics market," said said Tom Paddock, who has moved from his position as CEO of Sonic Focus to become vice president of audio systems at ARC.
"Together, ARC and Sonic Focus will enable consumer electronics manufacturers to deliver studio quality sound while achieving a greater degree of differentiation in their end device."
Shares in ARC remain unchanged at 27p.
